Twenty- nine year old, Chicago native, Ashley Tate- Gilmore has headed the White House Travel Office [for 3 years now], a five person operation that handles the logistics of all presidential trips. Tate- Gilmore not only sets up travel arrangements for the president, but her high- stake travel agent duties extend to press and staff; similar to that of a mini ambassador, as she is the first to arrive at presidential destinations.
Coming from a political lineage, Tate-Gilmore’s mother worked on Harold Washington’s mayoral campaign. She began her quest into the White House as a volunteer for Obama’s Senate campaign in 2003, and was soon hired as paid staff to manage other volunteers. After Obama was elected president, and moved into the White House, Tate-Gilmore came along as associate manager in the Travel Office, and was later recommended to become the head of office in September 2010.
